Our chickens are raised outdoors as soon as they are fully feathered, around 3 weeks old. They have a mobile shelter and are kept inside a portable electric fence which we move around our pasture and forest.

Rotating them frequently has many benefits:

• They always have access to fresh forage.

• Their manure is spread out evenly over the landscape, which helps build fertility and feeds the soil food web.

• An ever-changing location is great at confusing predators, of which we have plenty!
